MATAPUNA O TE AROHA PAPAKAINGA

The Mauria Te Pono Trust is a Charitable Trust that was established in 2013. It was initiated by members of the Whaanga-Kipa whanau in the hope of re-educating, restoring and reconnecting Whanau. One of the dreams of the Whaanga-Kipa whanau is to develop ancestral whenua into a sustainable Papakāinga with the intent to give back to both whanau, the wider community, and the land. We were engaged to assist with this vision and asked to provide project management and design services.  The process began with feasibility studies and moved into consenting phases, conceptual and construction design documentation then finally construction of the infrastructure, houses, and the landscape. A project that spanned 5 years, involving collaboration with many disciplines, governing bodies, and contractors. The result is 4 homes nestled amongst the extensive NZ native plantings, septic systems and rainwater tanks, roads, lighting, playgrounds and space for productive gardens and gatherings. We are looking forward to seeing the landscape regenerate and provide a sustainable way of living for the Whanau and generations to follow.
