HOSPICE

Hospice Tairāwhiti required a calming, healing outdoor space which provided opportunities for family gathering, one on one counseling or private contemplation. The budget was modest, meaning stage one of a larger masterplan was implemented setting the site up for further development as funding became available. 

 

Concrete paths with textured compacted stone infill lead to a bronze ripple dish water feature crafted by Contemporary Water Sculptures. Seating has been provided under the Hospice’s tree of choice, the Kōwhai, which will flower a magnificent yellow each spring. A very large mound of lavender sits centrally in the space and can be seen as you enter the building from the front carpark via a covered deck area that also features planting in large containers and comfortable seating. Although the budget was limited this very large site is now green and will establish into a space of vibrant colour and scent.
